Mobile Telecommunications Facilities

The Department of Education adopts a policy of prudent avoidance by not endorsing the installation of any mobile telecommunications facilities on school property.

    1. The Department of Education adopts a policy of prudent avoidance by not endorsing the installation of any mobile telecommunications facilities on school property.
  2. Audience and applicability
    1. This policy applies to all schools.
  3. Context
    1. The department adopts a policy of prudent avoidance in relation to the installation of mobile telecommunications facilities within school grounds.
      The department supports objections, if appropriate, to proposals to establish mobile telecommunications facilities near school grounds and requests that telecommunications carriers locate these proposed facilities further away from departmental sites.
      While the department cannot state a specific separation distance between a proposed mobile telecommunications facility and a school, the department has a preference for a distance of at least 500 metres from the boundary of the property.
  4. Responsibilities and delegations
    1. Executive directors, school performance and directors, educational leadership
      1. Executive directors, school performance or directors, educational leadership will, if appropriate, support principals when responding to proposals to locate telecommunications facilities on or near school grounds.
    2. Principals
      1. Principals, in consultation with the school community, are responsible for responding to proposals to locate telecommunications facilities on or near school grounds.
    3. Local Asset Management Units
      1. Local Asset Management Units are responsible for providing advice to executive directors, school performance; directors, educational leadership; and principals.
  5. Monitoring and review
    1. The Executive Director, Asset Management will monitor this policy and will report annually, or as required, to the General Manager, Asset Management.
