Motor Vehicle Policy

Policy requirements for the operation of a motor vehicle fleet and provides for the acquisition, use and management of government motor vehicles.

1. Policy statement

1.1 The Department of Education operates a motor vehicle fleet in accordance with Motor Vehicle Policy for New South Wales Government Agencies and provides a broad framework for the acquisition, use and management of government motor vehicles.

2. Audience and applicability

2.1 The departmental motor vehicle policy and best practice guide applies to all Department of Education officers (including Public Service Senior Executives) who maintain, control or drive departmental vehicles.

3. Context

3.1 The departmental Motor Vehicle Best Practice Guide covers departmental policy relating to the following aspects of motor vehicles: Use, Operational Procedures, Servicing, Accidents and Damage, Supply and Disposal, Departmental Standards, Fringe Benefits Tax, Salary Packaging and Garaging.

4. Responsibilities and delegations

4.1 The Director, Shared Services Business Services, is responsible for ensuring currency of the Departmental Motor Vehicle Best Practice Guide published on the Department of Education intranet site.

5. Monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements

5.1 The Motor Vehicle Policy and Motor Vehicle Best Practice Guide are reviewed and modified in accordance with changes to the Motor Vehicle Policy for New South Wales Government Agencies.
